Smeding Performance Camshafts differentiate from the rest starting with the core. While others use a “billet core”, we use a forged core. This is advantageous because the grain flow in forgings run through the camshaft and are not interrupted like they are in a “billet core”. While in production, our camshaft is forged very close to final shape with the lobes very distinguished. Then the camshaft is final ground to size, and at the very end of production it is heat treated. Other manufactures heat treat their cams, then final grind…This removes the heat treated layer, is inferior to our process and results in a camshaft that will generate grooves on the lobe.
